TRIP TO KILCOY.

ANNA AND CRAY.

Apon marking there way from dubbo over 3 days to Brisbane anna and cray picked a day to ride and meet up with some of the QLD SRA CHAPTER (27 may 2012)

Some of the QLD riders meet up in Brisbane for a ride with them to Kilcoy for lunch, while some of us where coming from the north direction to meet them at the stanley hotel kilcoy,

A few could not make the the whole days ride so rode part of the way, stopped for refreshments, smoke catch up then parted for the day.

the rest rode on to kilcoy to meet the rest of us, first they stopped at the park for a photo shoot

(me) finaly arrived at this park about 10 to 12pm to find no-one here, thinking i was the first there waited about 20 min then phone went, rayd seeing if i was still coming for lunch, (from bundaberg) they were all waitng at the pub in the main street.

Shot to the pub for quick bite, then out on to the street to check out each others bikes and chat, before we new it, it was time to leave ( 4 hour ride back to bundy 4 me).

Some photo's that were taken on the day, it was good to catch up with anna and cray, as brief as it was and also new riders that had joined the SRA group.

The first trip with the S.R.A was a meet and greet at nanango QLD 274 KM S/W of bundaberg where i live, luckly i had a mate (rick) up from brisbane and was heading back so he decided to ride back that way so my first long ride was not on my own.

Departed BUNDY about 7am, stopped at childers to top up with fuel and have a smoke before we hit the countryside roads with no fuel stops for a couple of hours which was goomeri. we stopped there for a stretch and another smoke then on to nanango, arrived about 10.45am.

Was a good trip there some of the best roads that i have ridden on once you turn off at childers, not that it would take much to beat the roads around bundy after the floods.

Riders for this meet were coming from Goldcoast, brissy, toowoomba, ispwich and bundaberg, apon arriving at nanango at the local pub there were only 4 members as the others had been held up at the blackbutt range (on going road works) but finaly they arrived.

We had to move our meeting place for lunch as the local pub no longer cooked meals for lunch, so we moved to RSL around the corner where we were very well looked after by the staff and the meals were great and well priced.

We spent about two hours meeting fellow members and talking bike mod's and more b/shite.

before we all departed to go home we went down the road to the BUCKET to have a group photo.

about 18 bikes had turned up for this meet and greet so it was a good turn out.

After the photo's had been taken we all departed, some south and myself, rayd and son headed north.

My mate rick headed south with MRC,ALDO ETC,to return to brissy.

Rayd lead our short ride together to GOOMERI where we stopped for 5mins , quick talk about the day and said our good byes as i still had a long way to go (about 3hrs).

Stopped once on the way home for a smoke and while stopped a bout 6  bikers on BMW,HARLEYS and 1 trumphy stopped for directions (off to rodeo) so being the good shadow rider we all are sent them in the right direction, well i hope it was, then we set on our way home (coll on the back).

Was watching for storm a head as we were getting closer to childers, by the time we got to childers it had just passed through, lucky for us as we had not taken any wet weather gear, was a sunny day all day and did not plan on getting back so late but time got away with having such a good time meeting up with everyone.

finally arrived home about 5.45pm a bit sore, first long trip and my back was giving it to me, have to do something about the stock seat (which i later did replaced driver and pillion seat with MUSTANG SEATS).

coll and myself were looking forward to the next S.R.A RIDE.

MY FIRST HONDA SHADOW

This picture of my vt750c4 2006 was taken at woodgate beach in bundaberg QLD.

chris wilson,

born 1960,

Riding bikes since about 11 years old until about 20 years old, have now started riding again full time at the age of 50 ( mid life thingy na lol).

Here is a pic of my bike when i first bought it, not very good pic but they get better,

bike was made 15/12/05 but first reg as a 2006 model 7/01/2006 it had 7000k's on the clock when purchased.

one owner and had been garaged all its life as it still is.

not the best pic but this is it when i first purchased it.

After a couple of months of having the bike i was surffing the net when i came across a site S.R.A (SHADOW RIDERS AUSTRALIA) so i checked the site out as a vistor and found that there seem to be a good bunch of guys and gals on here that had basicaly done what i was doing, taking up riding again after a big gap of not riding.

Also riding shadows, so thought this is a good place to start, so i joined to find out what other guys and gals were doing as far as mods to there bikes and find out tips on maintence (good move).

Since joining i have been on 3 QLD state rides with S.R.A and have had a great time meeting other club members that you only tex talk too on the site, there is a club in every state with there own co-ordinator that run there own state rides.

Well after a few rides around bundy i found i was being cut off by cars and thought this bike is too bloody Quiet (stock pipes-sewing machine sound) so they had to be changed, on the net we go, went to S.R.A site first to see what had been done to bikes as far as pipes went.

1ST MOD. V&H PIPES

bought a set of V&H cruiser pipes and Dyno-rejet kit, listened to the sound of them on utube (Did not do them justice) i installed the pipes myself and took the bike to Dyno shop to get re-jetting done and also tuned, boy what a diff that made, was also de-snorkled, well i picked up 10% torque and power in every gear well worth the $220.00 spent. fuel consumpton, have just been for trip down to Brisbane and hit resev at 318 k's so was very happy with that (do less with two up).so with the new pipes being much louder, but not too loud, cars can now here me before they see me. (still get some Dickheads on the road tho).

MOD 2. Tank bib and Saddle bags,

Fitted  Tank Bib with pouch which came in handy easy access to gloves, smokes and face marsk, took about 10 mins to put on, was one off the easiest mods i have done to the bike.

Saddle bags i purchased of the net ( USA) for about $65.00 apair, size large with chrome studs, the bags were mounted using ghost brackets (edge brackets) are what they are also known as.

These brackets let you lock the bags on with a key and remove them in about 10 sec, they slide on and off.

When putting on the mounting bolts i had to get two spacers made up as the rear fender rail curves in at the rear and this was the only way two keep the slider groves in line for the brackets that are mounted on the bags to slide on and off smoothly.

I had to relocate the rear indicators to put the bags on, even tho the brackets allow a lot of movement (back and forward) i needed to go more to the rear than forward so they would not get in the road when i have someone on the back, legs resting on rear pegs in comfit, am very happy with the way it came out, no complaints from the pillion passenger's as yet.

MOD 3. H.I.D H/L BEAM HEADLIGHT.

When i went on my very first night ride i found i could hardly see,  so i went on the net to see what i could find that would give me more light at nite and during the day.

I found a 35w h.i.d kit for $38 posted to do the trick, it has made a big difference, even in the day light it's much whiter in colour.

MOD 4,   MUSTANG SEATS.

After going on my very first long ride, 3 1/2 hours  there and same coming back, i could hardly walk with my bad back so i asked on the S.R.A site what was the best seat for comfort and everyone said the same thing, you can't go past a mustang seat.

So i hunted on the net for weeks as these are not cheap seats to buy and it paid off, wait long enuff and ya bound to find a special on some site. $420 posted from the USA
